Privacy Policy

Rosetta for Intune is a browser extension that translates the Windows OS build numbers shown in the Microsoft Intune admin center into human-readable labels. It is designed to be privacy-preserving: it collects no personal data. This policy explains what the extension does and does not do with your information.

What the extension accesses

To do its job, the extension's content script runs on the Microsoft Intune admin center and the Microsoft-owned origins that host its content (for example intune.microsoft.com and related *.microsoft.com pages). On those pages it reads the visible Windows build-number text (such as 10.0.26200.8875) and rewrites it into a readable label (such as 11-25H2-Jul2026). The translation is performed entirely on your device.

Keeping the data current

To stay accurate as Microsoft ships new builds, a background service worker periodically fetches Microsoft's public Windows release-health pages on learn.microsoft.com, parses the build tables, and caches them locally. These are ordinary anonymous requests for public web pages: no personal or browsing data, credentials, or identifiers are sent (requests are made without credentials), and nothing about you or your devices leaves your browser.

Information the extension stores

The extension stores your display preferences — whether the overlay is enabled, whether to show the original build number, and whether to show the patch month — using the browser's storage.sync API so they follow your browser profile. It also caches the parsed Windows build database locally via storage.local. This information is created only by your own actions or from public Microsoft data, and the developer has no access to it.

Information the extension does not collect

Rosetta for Intune does not collect, log, or transmit any personal or sensitive information to the developer or to any server. There are no user accounts, no analytics, no trackers, and no advertising. Its only outbound request is to Microsoft's public release-health pages, and it reads no page content other than the build-number text it translates — not credentials, form inputs, cookies, or anything else.

Data sharing and sale

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your information with anyone. We do not have it.

Permissions we request

• Storage: used to save your display preferences and to cache the Windows build database locally, as described above.
• Alarms: used to schedule the once-daily background refresh of the build database.
• Host access to learn.microsoft.com: used only to fetch Microsoft's public Windows release-health pages to keep the build database current. No data is sent with these requests.
• Host access to Intune / Microsoft portal origins: used only to read and rewrite the visible OS build-number text on those pages. It is not used to read other page content or for any other purpose.

Children

Rosetta for Intune is a general-purpose IT-administration utility, is not directed to children, and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
